FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK

Greetings,

A. W. Tozer stated, “Keep a Christian from entering the church sanctuary and you have not in the least bit hindered his worship.  We carry our sanctuary with us.  We never leave it.”  The impact of COVID-19 has been felt throughout the world and has disrupted services at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church just as it has other places of worship.  Just remember that being away from the church structure does not prevent us from worshipping our God.  We know Governor Kemp’s Shelter-in- Place Order limits but does not prevent us from gathering as a congregation, however we must do our part to limit the spread of COVID-19.  I encourage each of you to follow the Shelter-in-Place Order, the CDC guidelines and be stay safe.

The current pandemic causes much concern but it also gives us many opportunities to become more focused and creative in how we handle our spiritual and business affairs.  As we shelter-in-place, let us also shelter-out-distractions that takes our focus away from our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Think of the sacrifice God made for us and let us do what we can for others.

Let’s use this time to become more familiar with and take advantage of technology that is available to stay-connected.  The closing of the church doors as painful as it was encouraged us to stand-up Shiloh’s website so that it would be a source of  information to you and we could remain connected.  This crisis has also forced us to become aware of dire needs facing some, such as of the lack of internet and adequate food/other supplies.  I encourage you to use this pandemic to become aware of the federal economic stimulus funds and help those in need take advantage of the assistance.  The inadequacies and lack of compassion of some governmental leaders from Washington to our local counties should instill in us the importance of voting for those who are knowledgeable and would have our best interest at heart.

I know this is a time of uncertainty as to what is going on with the pandemic, but we are certain of who is in control.  We know that God has the whole world in His hands.  Please reach out to me or the deacons if there is any way we can serve you, particularly during this crisis.  Also reach out to others and be of whatever assistance you can to your fellowman.   As the song says, “If I Can Help Somebody, Then My Living Shall Not Be In Vain.”

Scriptures to focus on during this time to calm your fear and ease you anxiety are I Timothy1:7 and Philippians 4:6-7.  “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love and of a sound mind.” II Timothy 1:7 KJV; and “Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7 KJV

Shelter-in-Peace,

Pastor Rudolph Porter
